Although the UN considers encryption a human right, the Going Dark initiative and European police are fighting to end end-to-end encryption.
Their first move came as a reaction to Meta’s deployment of this type of encryption. The echoes of the debate over chat control are evident. But it is also the echo of an older battle.
In reality, the Going Dark initiative is nothing more than an extension of the so-called Crypto Wars (the war against encryption) in which US authorities have been involved since the dawn of the Internet.
Why does it matter?
If they advance against end-to-end encryption (real privacy), they will be able to lock you up if you use Tor, VPN, or crypto outside of exchanges.
At the end of last year, Europe voted NO and did not validate this invasion of privacy (fundamental right), but only half a year passed before returning to the starting point.
