I noticed that it’s several times more complicated to coordinate meetings in Argentina than in Colombia or Mexico (and it wasn’t like that before, you’d raise your hand and have a barbecue).
I also got scared when I arrived in Buenos Aires in November/December because I had never seen SO MUCH bad vibe on the street.
And even though I’m Argentinian and I know that here there’s a relative cult of complaining (at least since the 90s)…
I also noticed that it increased a lot (!)
It’s something complicated to explain, but a few days ago a motorcycle passed very close to me while I was crossing the street on foot and without a traffic light.
I had the right of way, from a legal but also human point of view. Because pedestrians have the right of way out of respect for human life.
But the driver said “why don’t you look, asshole!”, even though if I hadn’t looked, he would have hit me because he was driving at ~80 km/h ![]()
My instant response was to close my eyes and say “shhhhh” (without intending to offend, just to let the moment pass) ![]()
If you know me, you know that I don’t get involved in other people’s problems because I prefer to solve my own. That’s why I tried to get something positive out of that moment.
And I decided to evaluate what happened during this time, beyond the lack of money, which is natural in Latin America (where we include Colombia and Mexico).
In just a few seconds, I remembered that I went to Mexico to avoid staying locked up.
And then I sat down to research all the data I’m bringing you in this story.
The pandemic hurt everyone’s mind
And of course, you don’t have to trust my word, but rather different studies (and research on your own, if you’re interested):
- Almost 50% of surveyed nurses noted more hostile behaviors.
- People interact less in outdoor parks.
- Young people agree much less and develop neurotic behaviors.
- People gained weight due to eating disorders.
- Most tend to do more doomscrolling (zombie scroll).
- We socially experienced digital meeting fatigue, due to almost permanent exposure to the blue light of screens.
- Drug abuse increased.
- And we have 25% more anxiety and depression.
So, by rationalizing all that data, it’s quite simple to link this article:
With the third longest lockdown in the world:
I congratulate and thank myself (Snoop Dogg style) for having avoided the most abusive control that Argentina experienced after the Falklands War
And if you’re Argentinian, you could avoid getting angry about this, imitate me, and/or evaluate what you can do about it…
Because you are more depressed and anxious than other people, with whom you compete or will compete for the same money in the only market we have, which is global.
They locked us up to force us to work digitally, and then publicly announced a system that has been with us for decades, but no one had pushed massively.
They want us poor, isolated, angry, sad, anxious, depressed, and dependent.
And you will only be able to live in peace and healthily if you accept reality and stop competing with your peers.
